Persuasive Speech On Gun Violence - 1294 Words

To Mr. Lapeire, head of the NRA, Imagine heartbreak, loved ones dying, and losing hope. This has transpired for many in America today, all because of gun violence. It has become a great problem for our society in recent years. Data from Every Town Research has shown In their article Gun Violence by the Numbers â€Å"...that on an average day, 93 Americans are killed with guns...For every one person killed, two are injured† Many will deny that gun violence is a dilemma, but it is. Most do not realize this but, over 62% of the deaths that occur are suicides, and just over 1,642 people killed by gun violence were accidental. There is something very wrong here, and something needs to change quickly. If so many of these deaths are incidental, and†¦show more content†¦Overall the suicide rate is extremely high. It is not the most sought after death, but it is the most efficient. I have known many people over my short 16 years of life who have wanted to kill themselves. I’ve been in the position to e nd my life many times, had best friends die, and watched them die. It is a horrible tragedy; suicide is a sorrowful disaster that needs to be addressed. When I look back to why many of my friends died, I recollect how they said they could not handle life anymore. These wonderful, astounding, and kind people went out expecting to find more exceptional people yet, they were sadly disappointed. They went out and found a cruel world. An unfair world, one where dreams don’t always come true; Why? Simply because that is life. Sometimes no matter how hard you work you may never reach where you desire to be. There is always going to be someone bigger and/or better than you; that is the devastating reality of life. I believe the way we instruct children, that everything is fine and dandy in life; that if you try hard enough, you can be whatever you want to be is simply giving them false hope, and maybe that needs to change.
